This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how Crypto Compass News uses them, and the choices you have. We aim to use cookies minimally and never for advertising or cross-site tracking. We disclose all cookies we set in this document.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device when you visit them. They are used to remember preferences, track sessions, and (on many sites, though not ours) follow you across the internet for advertising. Cookies vary in scope: session cookies are deleted when you close your browser; persistent cookies remain until they expire or you delete them.

Cookies we use

We use a deliberately small set of cookies, all under our own domain (first-party only) and limited to essential and preference functions. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.

• Theme preference (`theme-mode`) — Stores your dark/light mode preference. Persistent. Set by the site itself; never read by third parties.
• Cookie consent (`cookie-consent`) — Stores whether you have accepted, declined, or not responded to our cookie banner. Persistent (1 year).
• Session ID — Used for security and to maintain consistent behaviour during a single browsing session. Session-only.

Third-party services that may set cookies

We use a small set of third-party services that may set their own cookies under their own domains:

• Cloudflare — Security and DDoS protection. May set a session cookie to track suspicious requests. Cloudflare's cookie policy governs its specific cookies.
• Plausible Analytics — Plausible is intentionally cookieless and does not set any cookies. Page-view tracking happens via aggregated server-side counts.
• CoinGecko (embedded market data) — May set cookies for its own widget functionality when you visit pages with embedded CoinGecko widgets. CoinGecko's cookie policy applies.

How to control cookies

You can control cookies through multiple mechanisms:

• Our cookie banner — When you first visit, a banner asks for consent. You can accept, decline, or close (effectively decline). Your choice is remembered for one year.
• Browser settings — All modern browsers let you block or delete cookies. Specific instructions vary by browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Note that disabling all cookies may break theme preferences and other site functionality.
• Private/incognito browsing — In private mode, your browser typically deletes all cookies when you close the window.

Do Not Track

We honour the Do Not Track browser signal where reliably available. When DNT is enabled, we limit cookie use to strictly-necessary cookies (session, security). Note that DNT was deprecated as a web standard but is still recognised by some browsers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our practices change. The effective date at the top of this document will reflect the most recent revision. For material changes, we will notify users via a notice on the homepage and reset cookie consent.
