US and EU users who prioritise a spotless security record — no major hack since 2011 — and want a serious pro-grade trading terminal.
Institutions and funds requiring an SEC-registered venue with segregated qualified custody and audited on-chain reserves.
Active spot traders chasing the deepest global liquidity and the widest listing catalogue outside the US perimeter.
Traders who mix spot and on-chain — the Web3 wallet, DEX aggregator and Ethereum L2 X Layer sit inside the same account as CEX pairs.
Long-horizon EU holders who want the oldest continuously-operating exchange (2011) with conservative listings and full MiCA licensing.
Derivatives-first traders who want tighter perp funding and a maker-friendly fee schedule; accept offshore regulatory footprint.

dYdX is a decentralised perpetual futures exchange, originally launched on Ethereum in 2019 and progressively evolved through multiple architectural iterations. The current version — dYdX Chain — is a Cosmos-based Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for on-chain perpetual futures trading, launched in October 2023 after migrating from the earlier StarkEx-based dYdX v3.
In 2026, dYdX Chain is one of the established on-chain perpetual futures venues but has been meaningfully surpassed by Hyperliquid (higher-volume) and Jupiter Perps (Solana-native) in overall market share. The Cosmos-based architecture provides sovereign control over the trading experience (specifically the orderbook and matching engine) and validator-directed fee distribution, but has not attracted the same volume as newer entrants.
DYDX is the native token of dYdX Chain, used for staking to validators, governance participation, and receiving a share of trading fees (100% of trading fees flow to DYDX stakers). This makes DYDX one of the most direct fee-accrual tokens in DeFi.
dYdX Chain runs on Cosmos SDK with Tendermint BFT consensus, currently with approximately 60 active validators. Block times are approximately 1-2 seconds with instant finality. The chain's core function is running a fully on-chain central-limit orderbook for perpetual futures — every trade, every order placement, every cancellation is settled on-chain.
The custom orderbook implementation handles high-frequency trading requirements. Validators run the orderbook software as part of block production; validator geographic and technical diversity is a design goal to maintain fair matching.
Traders can open long and short positions with leverage on major crypto assets. Positions are collateralised by USDC deposits. If a position moves against the trader beyond their collateral, it is liquidated. Funding rates align long and short interest to keep perpetual prices near spot.
DYDX has a total supply that has evolved through migrations from Ethereum ERC-20 to native dYdX Chain token. As of July 2026, circulating supply sits in the range of 750-800 million DYDX.
DYDX is used for:
The 100% fee distribution to stakers is one of the highest direct fee-accrual rates in crypto. When trading volume is strong, DYDX stakers can earn meaningful returns. When volume is weak, staking rewards contract proportionally.
dYdX's 2026 setup depends on whether it can recover meaningful market share from Hyperliquid and Jupiter Perps. The 100% fee-accrual mechanism is genuinely attractive when volume is strong; if volume recovery materialises, DYDX staker economics improve substantially.

You can also use the dYdX converter above to estimate how much DYDX you would get for a given dollar amount before placing the order.
Whether dYdX is a good investment depends on your goals, time horizon, and tolerance for volatility. Like all cryptocurrencies, DYDX carries real market risk: prices can rise or fall sharply in a day, and past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns.
