US and EU users who prioritise a spotless security record — no major hack since 2011 — and want a serious pro-grade trading terminal.
Institutions and funds requiring an SEC-registered venue with segregated qualified custody and audited on-chain reserves.
Active spot traders chasing the deepest global liquidity and the widest listing catalogue outside the US perimeter.
Traders who mix spot and on-chain — the Web3 wallet, DEX aggregator and Ethereum L2 X Layer sit inside the same account as CEX pairs.
Long-horizon EU holders who want the oldest continuously-operating exchange (2011) with conservative listings and full MiCA licensing.
Derivatives-first traders who want tighter perp funding and a maker-friendly fee schedule; accept offshore regulatory footprint.

Kaia (KAIA) is a public layer-1 blockchain built specifically for the Asian consumer Web3 market. The mainnet went live on August 29, 2024 after the merger of two existing chains: Klaytn, founded in 2018 by Korean tech giant Kakao, and Finschia, founded the same year by LINE and Naver. KAIA is the native token. Total supply is targeted at roughly 5.9 billion, with initial circulation drawn from legacy KLAY and FNSA holders via a 1:1 KLAY conversion and a defined FNSA migration ratio.
What makes Kaia different from a generic EVM chain is the user funnel sitting behind it. Kakao’s KakaoTalk has more than 50 million monthly users, almost all in South Korea. LINE Messenger has more than 200 million monthly users across Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Combined, the two platforms touch around 250 million people. The merger pulled both ecosystems under a single chain run by the Kaia DLT Foundation. Compared to TON, the closest analog as a messenger-anchored L1, Kaia is smaller in market cap but covers a denser slice of East Asian retail.
KAIA price comes from supply and demand on spot exchanges. The most active pairs are KAIA/USDT, KAIA/USD, and KAIA/KRW (the last one mostly on Korean venues like Upbit and Bithumb). Live data on this page pulls from a multi-venue feed and refreshes every 60 seconds. The reference quote is volume-weighted across the deepest order books.

Klaytn and Finschia spent six years running parallel Web3 stacks for Asia. Klaytn was the Kakao chain. It hosted most of the Korean K-pop NFT drops, the BORA gaming network, and the early Klip wallet inside KakaoTalk. Finschia was the LINE chain. It powered LINK (the predecessor token used in LINE rewards) and the DOSI NFT marketplace, mostly in Japan and Thailand. Both were EVM-compatible, both had decent enterprise traction, and both were too small on their own to compete with Solana, BNB Chain, or Ethereum L2s for global liquidity.
The merger produced one chain and one token. The migration worked like this:
For users, the practical change was that wallets, balances, and most dApps continued working under new branding. For the market, the merger collapsed two thinly-traded altcoins into one mid-cap with a clearer story: the L1 for LINE and Kakao messenger Web3.
Kaia runs on Istanbul BFT, a PBFT-derived consensus algorithm that Klaytn used since 2019. Block time is around 1 second, and finality is single-block, so there are no orphan blocks and no reorgs to worry about for ordinary use. The chain is fully EVM-compatible, which means Solidity contracts and most Ethereum tooling (Hardhat, Foundry, MetaMask, the standard RPC interface) work without changes.
Validators are organized as a Governance Council. The current setup includes more than 50 council members:
Council members run consensus nodes, vote on protocol changes, and approve treasury releases. KAIA holders can stake to a council node and earn rewards, but staking does not give you a vote on upgrades. That sits with the council.
LINE Mini Dapps are the most distinctive thing Kaia has going for it. They are small Web3 apps that run inside the LINE messenger app, the same app that 200 million people in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand already open every day. No separate download. No new wallet to install. The user clicks a link inside a chat and the dApp opens with a Kaia wallet already wired up.
The 2024-2025 rollout hit a few specific corners of the LINE user base:
The bet is that consumer Web3 adoption in Asia goes through messengers, not standalone wallet apps. If that is right, Kaia has a meaningful head start. If not, KAIA is just another L1 token.
Kaia Wave is the foundation’s headline incentive program, launched alongside the merger in 2024. It funds dApps that build on Kaia, with a heavy bias toward Mini Dapps that integrate with the LINE app. The program runs in batches: cohorts of dApps get marketing distribution inside LINE, KAIA grants for liquidity and user acquisition, and technical support from the Kaia DLT Foundation.
The program is meaningful in three ways:
Kaia-native DeFi protocols (KaiaSwap, Stable Forex, Mirum) sit alongside Wave-funded Mini Dapps in the ecosystem. Total value locked on the chain is small versus Solana or BNB Chain, but it is growing in step with Mini Dapp activity rather than hot-money DeFi rotations.
KAIA is listed on most major centralized exchanges and on Asian regional venues that ex-KLAY and ex-FNSA holders already used. The path you choose depends on where you live and how comfortable you are with self-custody.
For multi-year price scenarios, see our KAIA price forecast. For developer context on the Ethereum tooling that ports cleanly to Kaia, the Ethereum coin page covers the EVM standard.
KAIA is not a generic L1 token. The risks come less from chain security and more from the corporate strategy of two large Asian tech holdings.
