US and EU users who prioritise a spotless security record — no major hack since 2011 — and want a serious pro-grade trading terminal.
Institutions and funds requiring an SEC-registered venue with segregated qualified custody and audited on-chain reserves.
Active spot traders chasing the deepest global liquidity and the widest listing catalogue outside the US perimeter.
Traders who mix spot and on-chain — the Web3 wallet, DEX aggregator and Ethereum L2 X Layer sit inside the same account as CEX pairs.
Long-horizon EU holders who want the oldest continuously-operating exchange (2011) with conservative listings and full MiCA licensing.
Derivatives-first traders who want tighter perp funding and a maker-friendly fee schedule; accept offshore regulatory footprint.

Railgun is a privacy smart-contract system deployed on Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Arbitrum. It allows users to shield ERC-20 tokens, execute swaps, and interact with DeFi protocols without exposing wallet addresses or transaction amounts on-chain. Railgun's privacy is enforced entirely by zero-knowledge proofs — there is no trusted hardware, off-chain relayer set, or wrapped-token mechanism.
The RAIL token governs the Railgun DAO and receives a share of protocol fee revenue. Unlike most privacy projects, Railgun does not build its own blockchain. Instead, it deploys shielded pool smart contracts on existing EVM chains, meaning users keep their preferred chain's security model and liquidity while gaining transaction privacy on top.
RAIL is listed on Uniswap, SushiSwap, and a small selection of centralized venues. Liquidity is concentrated in DeFi pools, which makes the price sensitive to pool depth shifts.
What drives the RAIL price:
All data on this page refreshes every 60 seconds. The sections below reflect conditions at page load.
Railgun implements a shielded pool based on Groth16 zk-SNARK proofs and a UTXO-style note model, similar in architecture to Zcash shielded transactions but deployed as a smart contract rather than a standalone chain. Users deposit ERC-20 tokens into the shielded pool and receive encrypted notes representing their balance. Every subsequent transfer or withdrawal generates a zk-SNARK proof that validates the inputs without revealing the sender, receiver, or amount.
The proving key was generated in a public multi-party computation ceremony. No single participant can break the privacy guarantee; all participants would have to collude and none is trusted individually.
The total RAIL supply is 100 million tokens. Initial distribution covered team and investors on vesting schedules, a DAO treasury, and community incentives. Governance and fee-share mechanics give RAIL a dual function as both a voting token and a yield-bearing asset.
Railgun smart contracts are deployed on four EVM chains as of 2025: Ethereum mainnet, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Arbitrum. The Railway wallet is the primary interface, available as a browser extension and mobile app for iOS and Android. Third-party integrations include DEX aggregators that route through Railgun's private swap infrastructure.
RAIL is primarily a DeFi-traded token. Most buyers acquire it on-chain through Uniswap or SushiSwap.
There is no native bridge; RAIL exists on Ethereum as the primary contract. Polygon and other chain deployments are bridged representations.
Railgun is frequently compared to Tornado Cash, the Ethereum mixer sanctioned by OFAC in August 2022. The two systems target overlapping privacy needs but use different designs. See also our Monero page for a non-EVM privacy baseline.
The architectural differences give Railgun a stronger compliance story, but regulatory risk for on-chain privacy infrastructure remains elevated across the board.
Regulatory risk is the dominant concern for Railgun, followed by liquidity risk and smart-contract risk.
